From the old days that acquisitively-driven humans learned of plastics, they have been incessantly taking long strides in the world of plastics striving to make a product par excellence, which is cheaper, stronger, more durable, reusable, more resistant to weather, heat, cold etc., than any that have existed . Time bears testimony to the fact that the discovery of plastics has been a crucial turning point in history. Who would have thought that organic products such as cellulose, coal, natural gas, salt and, of course, crude oil would give us something so indispensable, plastics! The development of plastics has evolved from the use of natural plastic materials (e.g., chewing gum, shellac) to the use of chemically modified, natural materials (e.g., natural rubber, nitrocellulose, collagen, galalite) and finally to completely synthetic molecules (e.g., bakelite, epoxy, polyvinyl chloride). Early plastics were bio-derived materials such as egg and blood proteins, which are organic polymers. As the manufacture of plastic raw materials and their variety grew, so did the various methods of processing these plastics. There are many, but we will limit ourselves to what we are engaged in, i.e., injection moulding, blow moulding and extrusion moulding. Molding or moulding is the process of manufacturing by shaping liquid or pliable raw material using a rigid frame called a mold or mould. A mold or mould is a hollowed-out block that is filled with a liquid or pliable material such as plastic, glass, metal, or ceramic raw material. Blow molding is a manufacturing process by which hollow plastic parts are formed. The process comes from the idea of glass blowing. Injection moulding is a manufacturing process for producing parts by injecting material into a mould. Extrusion is a process used to create objects of a fixed cross-sectional profile. A material is pushed through a die of the desired cross-section. We deal in injection and blow moulds / molds. Typical moulds are constructed from hardened steel, pre-hardened steel, aluminium, and/or beryllium-copper alloy. The choice of material to build a mould from is primarily one of economics; in general, steel moulds cost more to construct, but their longer lifespan will offset the higher initial cost over a higher number of parts made before wearing out.
